He almost pulled off the perfect crime.

39-year-old Korean Yun Jong Sik, who had been apprehended in Makati City for allegedly committing fraud, now faces deportation, the Philippines’ Bureau of Immigration (BI) announced today.

Yun had been hiding in the Philippines since 2008 and allegedly swindled 42.2 million won (US$39,495.62) from people in South Korea between August and September 2013 in 16 incidents, BI spokesperson Dana Sandoval said.

He was arrested by the BI in Guadalupe, Makati City late last month following a request from the South Korean embassy in Manila and is currently detained at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City.

According to GMA News, Yun at one point pretended to be a journalist from a United States-based university to convince two Korean women to send him money through the internet.

BI Commissioner Jaime Morente said in the statement that Yun will be “deported and banned from returning to the country.”
