According to Julian Camacho, the chef-de-mission of the Philippine contingent to the upcoming 28th Southeast Asian Games in Singapore, the National Sports Association is committing to more or less 60 gold medals.
“Sometimes they blow up the matter. So we reduce the number to be moderate,” Camacho was quoted in a Philippine Star report.
The country is also hoping for a 5th place finish this year; in 2013 during the Myanmar games, we finished 7th.
The games, which will run from June 5-16, has 36 games lined up. The Philippines with 472 athletes and 189 officials, will participate in 35 games. Field hockey is the only sport we’re not playing in.
The report continues: “Camacho said the country can count on combat sports like boxing, taekwondo, judo and wushu, and other disciplines like athletics, rugby seven, sailing, dragon boat, gymnastics, softball, triathlon, tennis and basketball.”
