PH has slowest internet speed in Southeast Asia

Well, at least we don’t have the slowest internet speed in the world. (Although we’re sort of close to getting there.)

“Despite being regarded as the social media capital of the world, the Philippines has the slowest Internet speed in the entire Southeast Asian region and is ranked 158th out of 190 countries worldwide,” reports Matikas Santos on Inquirer.net.

The report cited Net Index rankings by Internet broadband testing company Ookla, which put the Philippines’ average Internet speed at 3.54 Megabits per second (Mbps).

The report noted: “By contrast, Hong Kong has 77 Mbps putting it first in the world, while Singapore is second with 65 Mbps as of the April 2014 rankings.”

Niger is ranked 190th, with its 0.78 Mbps Internet speed.

These Net Index rankings are based on a survey of at least 100,000 unique IP addresses for each given country that logged on to the site for Internet speed tests, covering the period from October 20, 2011 to early April 20, 2014.

Check out the chart below featuring the countries with the fastest Internet speeds.
