The government is set to destroy dozens of smuggled luxury cars next week after President Rodrigo Duterte rescinded the policy allowing illegally imported vehicles to still be sold via bidding, his spokesperson said Saturday.
“About 70 luxury cars ang ipapa-bulldoze ni Pangulong Duterte sa susunod na linggo,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a press conference in Ilocos Norte.

Duterte, who has enforced a strict policy against corruption, announced his new policy against luxury vehicles on February 1 in a speech delivered before indigenous peoples in Davao City.
“The thing speaks for itself. Hindi na siya magto-tolerate ng mga auction ng mga smuggled na sasakyan (He will not tolerate those people who are auctioning smuggled vehicles),” Roque said.
