PH embassy in Beijing cordoned off, but ‘vibe is calm’ following territorial dispute ruling

In the wake of the international court ruling on Philippines’ maritime case against China, our embassy in China has warned Filipinos there to beware of personal “threats” and avoid political debate.

The Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA), the international tribunal based in the Netherlands, had ruled in favor of the Philippines in the territorial dispute.

The ruling, however, got a not-so-favorable reaction from China.

“That said, foreign journalists in Beijing, China, have reported that the vicinity of the Philippine Embassy has been cordoned off, following an international court ruling on Philippines’ maritime case against China,” reports ABS-CBN News.

Emily Rauhala, China correspondent for Washington Post, related that there was a military truck had been parked outside the embassy hours before the ruling was released.

“But vibe is calm, nobody but plainclothes [police officers] around,” she tweeted.
