Say goodbye to all these fake goodies.
The Bureau of Customs’ (BOC) Intelligence Group (IG) seized various fake branded products estimated to be worth PHP850million (more than US$16million) inside warehouses in Binondo, Manila and Parañaque City yesterday.
The operation stemmed from a complaint they received from a Nike Philippines brand representative about imitations of their products, BOC Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero said in a statement.
This prompted the BOC’s IG to inspect three warehouse units in Binondo, and two other warehouses in Parañaque City.
Customs agents found several fake goods with well-known brands such as Nike, Adidas, Under Armour, Polo Ralph Lauren, Supreme, Roxy, Marvel, Hello Kitty, and Billabong, among others inside the Binondo warehouse units.
It contained roughly 2,500 sacks of garments with an estimated value of PHP700 million (more than US$13million), the BOC said.
Meanwhile, the two warehouses in the Steelhauz Compound in Meliton Espiritu St., Sucat, Parañaque City were found to have contained PHP150 million (more than US$2.8million) worth of fake items of brands like Nike, Adidas, Red Bull, Tsing Tao, HP, Heineken, Oakley, Under Armour, Champion, Tribal, Bench, and Cetaphil among others.
The fake goods that were seized are now under customs’ control and will undergo seizure and forfeiture proceedings for violation of the customs laws.
Fake goods are classified as prohibited under the Republic Act No. 8293 or the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines.
