This paves the way for more commercial opportunities for the airlines of the two countries.
“The Philippines and Singapore have signed an air agreement to increase capacity entitlements between the two countries,” reports ABS-CBNnews.com.
The report noted: “Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) executive director Carmelo Arcilla said the new air pact increased the capacity entitlements between Manila and Singapore by 7.1 percent to 18,888 seats per week from the current 17,627 seats per week.”
The report added that “co-terminal points for Singaporean carriers were also expanded to Iloilo and Bacolod, adding to the current list of Cebu, Davao, and Puerto Princesa.”
Arcilla said, “It means that Singaporean carriers can fly to Cebu for example and then proceed to Davao.”
On top of that, Arcilla pointed out that “the two countries also agreed to increase the limit on the frequencies for fifth freedom to 10 per week from eight per week.”
The report explained that “fifth freedom rights is the right to operate services to a third country from a country with which an airline’s resident country has an air services agreement.”
“A Singaporean carrier, for example, can operate a route that starts from Singapore to Manila and proceeds to Osaka, 10 times a week,” stated Arcilla.
