PH is 2nd most dangerous country for journalists

The Philippines takes the No. 2 spot in the 2013 International News Safety Institute (INSI) list of the “World’s Most Dangerous Countries for Journalists.” It shares the spot with India. Both countries recorded 12 journalists dead last year.

The No. 1 spot belongs to Syria, with 19 journalists dead. Iraq is No. 3, with 11 journalists killed, and Pakistan NO. 4 with a death toll of 9 journalists.

“The INSI is a safety organization that records all deaths — whether deliberate, accidental or health-related — of all news media staff, support staff and freelancers while on assignment or as a result of their news organization being attacked because of their work,” reports Artemio Dumlao in The Philippine Star.

Overall, the group recorded 126 journalists and other media workers killed in 29 countries in 2013.
