The Philippine General Hospital (PGH) announced in July that detained Senator Juan Ponce Enrile is suffering from 13 ailments. So, now, maybe they want to focus on one ailment at a time?
“PGH medical director Dr. Jose Gonzales has asked the Sandiganbayan 3rd Division for another 15 days to complete the medical tests on detained Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile, who has pleaded with the court that he be held in a hospital,” reports Marlon Ramos in Philippine Daily Inquirer.
Gonzales explained that Enrile “was diagnosed with bronchial asthma and that a pulmonologist should check on his condition immediately.”
The report added that “Gonzales also asked the court to extend the 30-day period it had given the PGH to complete Enrile’s medical examination.”
Enrile, 90, has been held in a private room at the PNP General Hospital at Camp Crame, Quezon City, since he turned himself in to authorities on July 4 after the court ordered his arrest on plunder and graft charges over the PHP10-billion pork barrel scam.
Enrile is accused of taking PHP172.8 million of his allotments from the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) from 2007 to 2009.
For the record, these are Enrile’s 13 ailments:
—uncontrolled hypertension that may lead to brain or heart complications, including a recurrence of stroke
—arryhthmia or irregular heartbeat that may lead to fatal or non-fatal cardiovascular events especially under stress
—coronary calcification which is associated with coronary artery disease which may indicate a future risk of heart attacks under stress
—chronic hypertension dating back as early as 1990
—atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease with previous history of cerebrovascular disease and coronary artery calcifications —arrhythmia or irregular heart beat documented by a Holter monitor
—high blood sugar or diabetes
—high cholesterol levels
—bronchial asthma
—gait or balance disorder
—age-related macular degeneration on both eyes
—past history of upper gastro-internal bleeding
