Peition site Change.org has been an avenue for netizens to show support of causes. Sometimes, it’s to save trees from being bulldozed to construct a flyover and sometimes, it’s to protest the construction of a condominium building that will destroy the view of Rizal Park.
And sometimes, it’s to ask President Benigno Aquino III to require public officials to take public transportation once a month, a proposal that means well but is ultimately unenforceable. We are, after all, talking about government officials who sometimes fail to disclose their net worth despite being required to do so by law.
Petitioner Dinna Dayao says having public officials take public transportation will show them how 80 percent of Metro Manila gets around. “The only way government officials will understand the plight of commuters is if they themselves take public transit regularly,” Dayao says.
Or they could ask commuters.
