Did he run out of energy for the job?

“Amid speculation and rumors, Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Jericho Petilla confirmed on Tuesday, April 28, that he submitted his resignation to Malacañang,” reports Philippine News Agency correspondent Juzel L. Danganan on InterAksyon.com.

Petilla explained that he submitted his resignation to President Benigno Aquino III, adding it was accepted. Since it’s been rumored that Petilla is running for senator, reporters asked him about it. However, he did not confirm whether he will push through with his Senate run.

A Philippine Daily Inquirer report by Gil C. Cabacungan explained that Petilla, a former Leyte governor, was, indeed, said to be short-listed in the Liberal Party’s senatorial lineup.

In the Inquirer report, it was pointed out that Petilla himself admitted that he was considering running in next year’s elections. He had stated in an earlier interview, “I can’t stay in this position forever. Eventually, I have to go.”
