PCGG starts ‘Virtual Jewelry Exhibit’ of seized Marcos bling

The Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) — the government agency tasked to seize the ill-gotten wealth and assets of the Marcos administration — started sharing photos of the jewelry that they have recovered so far.

Earlier, the PCGG had said that the jewelry in their possession would be auctioned off along with all 60 pieces held by the Bureau of Customs (BOC) and the collection that alleged Marcos associate Demetriou Roumeliotes had tried to smuggle out of the country back in 1986. Overall, the auction would present 300 pieces of jewelry.

The date for the auction has not been set, but the PCGG has begin sharing photos of the seized bling. The photos don’t cite the prices for the items, but they do have captions that give us an idea of what they may be worth. For instance, the caption on a diamond tiara reads, “This diamond tiara can fund treatment of 12,052 cases of tuberculosis until full recovery.”

The PCGG has been sharing the images via its Twitter page with the hashtag “#VirtualJewelryExhibit.”
