The Philippine Animal Welfare Society is asking for help in finding more information about animal cruelty that killed six kittens in Valle Verde I village in Pasig City.
PAWS said on its Facebook page that the six kittens were put inside a double-knotted plastic bag and thrown in a sewer along Macapuno Street in that subdivision. The kittens died horrible deaths, PAWS said.
According to a witness, who is ready to file an animal cruelty complaint, the kittens were killed by an unnamed housemaid from No.4 Macapuno Street.
“Valle Verde I administrator Greg Ongjoc stated that he has no information on the household helpers of the #4 Macapuno Street Property, and despite a letter dated April 10, 2013, and repeated visits from PAWS, could not provide any information that would help in catching the animal offender,” PAWS said.
PAWS is asking netizens who have information on the incident to get in touch with them through philpaws@yahoo.com or 475-1688 to help develop a case against the offender.
The Animal Welfare Act penalizes killing animals “other than cattle, pigs, goats, sheep, poultry, rabbits, carabaos, horses, deer, and crocodiles.” It allows killing animals for population control, but requires that the killing is done “through humane procedures.”
Those found guilty of violating the Animal Welfare Act face from 6 months to 2 years in prison, a fine of from P1,000 to P5,000, or both.
