Passengers at Ninoy Aquino International Arport (NAIA) Terminal 3 are complaining about an alleged “taxi scam” at the said airport.
According to a video that Nityalila Saulo posted on YouTube, NAIA 3 does not allow regular taxi cabs to pick up passengers there. Instead, only yellow airport taxis are allowed (which charge at least double the rate of regular metered taxis).
The video shows a group of passengers asking airport security guards where they could get regular taxi cabs. The time stamp was 9:30 p.m. (the video was dated July 28) and the passengers waited for more than an hour. No airport official or management personnel came out to address their concerns.
In the end, the passengers signed a complaint addressed to the airport management criticizing this so-called policy of allowing only airport taxis to pick up passengers at NAIA 3. The passengers reasoned they are ordinary people and would prefer to walk outside in order to save a few hundred pesos on their cab fare.
Unfortunately, even if they had been allowed to ride “regular” cabs, they would likely have been victims of another scam pulled by taxi drivers at Terminal 3. Previously, we have had to pay a cabbie P350 to take us from Terminal 3 to Pasong Tamo in Makati. Another taxi driver charged PHP75 per kilometer because his meter was “special”.
Coconuts Manila tried to reach both the office of Manila International Airport Authority assistant general manager for operations Ricardo Medalla Jr. and the Public Affairs Office for comment but got no response. E-mails to the offices were automatically rejected because their inboxes were full.
