A passenger at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 4 in Pasay City was found to be in the possession of 24 pieces of suspected live ammunition and a magazine loaded with another six rounds of bullets, the Office for Transportation Security (OTS) said today.

The OTS identified the passenger as 49-year-old Omilio Bienvenido Fidel. He was bound for Tacloban City when the bullets were found inside his green trolley bag on April 20.

According to the statement, Security Screening Officer Darryl Mascariñas saw what he described as “bullet-like items” when the luggage went through the x-ray machine. This prompted him to stop the conveyor and search the bag where he found the prohibited items.

Fidel didn’t have the proper documentation for the said items. He defended himself and said that it was actually his wife who packed his luggage and unintentionally included the ammunition that allegedly belongs to his brother.

He was then taken to the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group’s office for further questioning.

Napoleon Cuatun, the OTS’ head executive assistant told Coconuts Manila that Fidel has been arrested and faces charges for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
