The Pasay City police intelligence chief and the man who confessed to killing a Grab driver were both killed in a shootout yesterday.

According to ABS-CBN News, Senior Inspector Manuel Taytayon Jr. and his team were about to arrest Narc Tulod Delemios from his hideout on Don Carlos Revilla Street in Barangay (Village) 148 in Pasay City when the suspect shot at them.

Delemios escaped from the Pasay City Jail on Aug. 14 where he had been detained for killing Grab driver Gerardo Maquidato Jr. last year and for allegedly killing 19-year-old Gino Balbuena in 2014.

Rappler reported that the policemen learned about his whereabouts when they received information from concerned citizens.

The suspect fired the first shot when he saw the police arrive at his hideout’s fourth floorThe Philippine Daily Inquirer reported.

Taytayon was hit but was able to shoot back at Delemios before the former fell to the ground, ABS-CBN News reported.

Inquirer added that Delemios died in the encounter while Taytayon was rushed to the San Juan De Dios Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. He succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds.

When Delemios confessed to the killing of Maquidato, he said that he killed the driver because he resisted giving him his money.

“I just wanted to get money from him, but he insisted. He fought back, that’s why I did it,” Delemios was quoted saying in Filipino by Rappler.

On the other hand, Balbuena was allegedly killed by Delemios after the teenager hit him with an elbow during a basketball game.
