What’s easier to endure: three days without power or three days without water?
“On Wednesday, March 11, Manila Water appealed for public understanding as several barangays in Marikina and Rizal will be waterless for three days — with the water service interruption starting from 10 p.m. on March 15 until 10 p.m. on March 18,” reports Rhodina Villanueva in The Philippine Star.
The report noted: “Manila Water said the temporary inconvenience in water services is due to the implementation of its seismic retrofitting project. The project is part of a mitigation plan to ensure the reliability of water services to residents in the east zone in case of natural calamities such as earthquakes, where water pipes could be at risk of breakage.”
Manila Water has started installing “11 seismic joints at three major points along the 1.3-meter pipe that crosses West Valley Fault.”
As indicated in the report, “Marang Road in Barangay Maly and Villa San Mateo I in Barangay Guitnangbayan Uno in San Mateo, Rizal as well as Hillside and Cortijos Subdivisions in Barangay San Rafael in Rodriguez will have to endure 72 hours of dry tap.”
The other affected areas are barangays San Rafael, Geronimo, San Isidro, Burgos, Balite, San Jose, Manggahan and Rosario in San Mateo; barangays Maly, Ampid 1, Ampid 2, Banaba, Guitnangbayan 1, Guitnangbayan 2, Dulong Bayan 1, Dulong Bayan 2, Sto. Niño, Silangan, Sta. Ana, Malanday, Gulod Malaya, and Guinayang in Rodriguez.
Barangays Concepcion Uno, Concepcion Dos, Fortune, Nangka, Marikina Heights, Parang and Tumana, all in Marikina City, will have no water supply from March 16 to 18.
Manila Water advised residents of affected barangays to store water for the duration of the service interruption. The water concessionaire added that “water tanks will be deployed to affected areas.”
