Parokya ni Edgar gets flak for his FM pose at Marcos Fiesta 2014

Parokya ni Edgar has drawn flak for posing like the former Philippine dictator during the Marcos Fiesta 2014—a celebration marking the 97th birthday of the late president—held at the Ilocos Norte Centennial Arena on Sep 13.

“The band’s lead vocalist Chito Miranda has been slammed for being photographed posing like the former President Ferdinand Marcos. The photo has since gone viral.”

In a statement released on Akbayan party-list’s website on Monday, September 15, Akbayan-Youth chairperson Rafaela “Paeng” David said, “The late dictator is not someone to be applauded or emulated by the today’s young people.”

In the same statement, Student Council Alliance of the Philippines chairperson Francesca “Iska” Dalangin points out:

“Parokya ni Edgar is a pop icon of our generation. A lot of young people, including us, idolize them. We thus hope the band uses its unique position to become ambassadors of truth. Let’s use rock n’ roll to set the truth free from the Marcoses’ historical revisionism!”
