Parañaque congressman files bill to have tourist spots featured in stamps

Did somebody really need to file a bill for this? (Obviously, this is a rhetorical question.)

“Parañaque City 1st District Rep. Eric Olivarez has filed House Bill No 2417 or the Philippine Tourism Stamp Act of 2013, a measure requiring the depiction of the country’s tourism sites in postage stamps,” reports Jomari D. Guillermo in the Manila Bulletin.

Despite the fact that the rest of the world is going digital, Olivarez believes that “this bill can arouse international interests on the numerous tourism sites in the country.”

According to the report, “under the bill, the Department of Tourism (DOT) and the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) are required to assist the Philippine Postal Corporation (PhilPost) in identifying, illustrating, labeling, and sorting of the tourist areas to their designated post stamps.”

As far as we know, the PhilPost has already featured some scenic spots and landmarks on stamps before. Just take a look at the photo accompanying this article.
