On January 18, around six million people were at Quirino Grandstand to attend the Sunday Mass presided by Pope Francis. People were there as early as 5am — some of them dressed in their Sunday best — for an event that was not scheduled to happen until late afternoon. There were street vendors selling food, souvenirs and candles (watch the video below).
What a lot of the people at the Sunday Mass, however was the lack of facilities for sanitation. Portable toilets, scattered around Luneta Park, were barely over 400 units. So imagine that: Six million people, 400 toilets. How was that even possible?
