Let this be another lesson why you shouldn’t do bomb and terror drills without prior announcement.
In a flurry of panic, some students from Tondo High School in Manila fainted and experienced difficulty in breathing after the Manila Police District (MPD) Bomb Squad detonated a bomb near the school for a surprise bomb drill Friday (July 14) morning.
Students ran outside for safety as policemen and the school faculty guided the students and tried to contain the chaos.
According to an ABS-CBN News report, the explosion was so realistic that some students fainted on site and some had a hard time breathing due to panic and being stuck in a tight crowd outside the school. Said students were given first aid.
The footage below shows a student crying and visibly shaken as she gets in an ambulance. Three other students were also reported to have suffered asthma attacks. The ambulance meant as a prop for the simulation was actually used for the emergency to bring some students to the hospital.
“We really need this because right behind us is the pier. We could be attacked by a terrorist anytime,” said Sonny Valenzuela, the school principal.
The school management plans to intensify the students’ preparedness in first aid so they could respond anytime during emergencies.
