Palawan, Boracay and Cebu in world’s best Islands list

Bring out the lambanog, it’s time to celebrate!

Each year, the New York-based Travel + Leisure (T+L) magazine asks readers to weigh in on travel experiences around the globe as part of their 2016 World’s Best Awards survey.

This year definitely belongs to the Philippines.

“The Philippines is having a moment. This year, three of the top 10 islands in the world, as decided by Travel + Leisure readers, are in this Asian archipelago,” wrote Melanie Lieberman in T+L.

Below is are the countries that made it to T+L top 10 World’s Best Islands list with the scores culled from readers’ ratings:

1. Palawan, Philippines [Score: 93.71]
2. Boracay, Philippines [Score: 90.47]
3. Ischia, Italy [Score: 90.22]
4. Waiheke Island, New Zealand [Score: 90.00]
5. Santorini, Greece [Score: 89.07]
6. Cebu, Philippines [Score: 88.65]
7. Maui, Hawaii [Score: 88.55]
8. Hilton Head, South Carolina [Score: 88.35]
9. Kauai, Hawaii [Score: 88.33]
10. Bali, Indonesia [Score: 88.24]

As Lieberman explained: “The Philippines’ predominance shows that discerning travelers are willing to travel great distances for the rewards of clear waters and sugary white beaches.”

She also noted, “Palawan first received the coveted No.1 spot in 2013, and it’s little surprise that the island is back at the top.
