This news isn’t surprising, but we may as well have a record of the great relationship that Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Alan Purisima has with the Palace.
“Malacañang is not inclined to force Purisima to go on leave amid the corruption allegations against him but is eager to hear his side about the matter,” reports Genalyn Kabiling in Tempo.
According to deputy presidential spokeswoman Abigail Valte, they’re leaving it up to Purisima’s “sound discretion” whether or not he would heed calls to temporarily leave his post to face the allegations.

Senator Grace Poe had earlier suggested that it may be a good idea for Purisima to go on administrative leave while a probe was done on the allegations against him. Purisima was slapped with graft raps by a consumer group for his alleged “unexplained wealth.”

Valte was quoted as saying, “As in other cases, the question whether an official should go on leave or not in light of a particular issue is best addressed to the sound discretion of the official in question.”
Purisima, who has been out of the country on official business, is expected to be back on Friday, Sep 26.
