Palace officials should set an example and send their kids to public school, too.

“Malacañang on Monday, April 20, said private schools are not the only option for parents who are sending their children to school under the K to 12 program,” reports Madel Sabater-Namit in Manila Bulletin.

Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Sonny Coloma said, “Private schools are not the only option because there are also a lot of SUCs (state universities and colleges).”

Coloma added, “The SUCs are also part of the education system, it can also offer senior high school program that’s why we are saying that the approach of DepEd is systemic and integrated. The options for those who will be affected by the K to 12 program are not limited.”

The report noted: “The statement was made at the heels of concerns raised by several parents’ groups regarding increasing tuition rates as well as the brunt they have to bear for two extra years with the implementation of the new basic education curriculum.”

Coloma went on to say that “the impact of the transition period for the K to 12 program is only for the first two years of implementation.” He “reiterated the importance of the K to 12 Program, noting that it is significant to ensure that Filipinos remain globally competitive.”
