Security is absolutely necessary.
“Malacañang assured Catholic bishops of Pope Francis’ safety during his visit to the country next year amid fears on the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS),” reports Madel S. Namit in Tempo.
According to deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte, “no less than President Noynoy Aquino had assured that the Pope will be given tight security in his visit from Jan 15 to 19 next year.
Valte said, “Of course, we can’t talk about [the details of the security program] now but we have the assurance. We will be making sure that the plan is in place and that there will be several contingencies so that the visit of the Holy Father will go over without any incident.”
The report noted: “Valte also said that the Philippine government is not taking the ISIS threat lightly.”
