On Mon, Sep 7, the Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) officially began their takeover of the traffic management on EDSA, replacing the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) as the lead enforcing agency in the said area.
With the PNP-HPG’s performance getting a lot of good feedback, some people said it may be time for MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino to resign.
However, the Palace has defended Tolentino.
“Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said President Benigno Aquino III still trusts Tolentino despite the criticisms hurled at him,” reports Louis Bacani on Philstar.com.
Coloma stated: “Patuloy ang tiwala at kumpiyansa ni Pangulong Aquino kay MMDA Chairman Tolentino sa kanyang pagganap ng tungkulin (President Aquino continues to trust MMDA Chairman Tolentino in doing his duties).”
Coloma added: “Sa nakalipas na limang taon, ipinakita ni Chairman Tolentino ang isang hands-on, can-do management style nang agarang pagtugon sa pangangailangan ng mga mamamayan (For the past five years, Chairman Tolentino showed a hands-on, can-do management style that addressed the needs of the citizens).”
