PAL borrows $38-m loan from Taiwanese bank for more Airbus

Changes are also happening over at Philippine Airlines.

The national flag carrier is slowly but surely adding new aircraft to its inventory in a bid to revive it’s reputation as a top Asian airline as it expands to more destinations in the region and beyond.

On Mon, Sep 5, it will sign a USD38-million loan from Cathay United Bank, one of the largest commercial banks in Taiwan, according to The Philippine Star.

The loan will help finance its recent purchase of an Airbus A321, the largest member of the best-selling A320 family, which has the lowest seat mile costs of any single aisle aircraft. The list price is USD114.9 million, reports Manila Standard.

PAL will use the aircraft for international routes in Asia and selected domestic flights. It now has 79 aircraft in its fleet, with 40 international destinations and 30 domestic points.

“Earlier this year, PAL also signed a purchase agreement with Airbus for six A350-900 aircraft to be used for long-haul routes. The first A350 is scheduled for delivery in 2018,” according to Philippine Star.
