Disaster can strike anytime, so we must do what we can to prepare.
In the wake of the recent tremors that rocked Japan, Ecuador and Myanmar, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) is urging Filipinos to join the nationwide simultaneous earthquake drills on Thursday, Apr 21 at 8:30 a.m.
This will be the first quarterly earthquake drill for 2016.
It will be overseen by the OCD and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
For this drill, the command and control operations will be based at Air Force City at Clark, Pampanga.
“It’s better that we have an alternative venue in case Metro Manila is too damaged, and we saw Air Force City at Clark as an alternative operations center. This is why the command and control for this drill will be outside Metro Manila,” OCD spokesperson Romina Marasigan told Inquirer.
Tremors of magnitude-5 and under have struck places around the Philippines in recent weeks, but officials are more concerned about the West Valley Fault, which has not moved in 400 years.
Marasigan is urging FIlipinos to use social media as they take part in the drills.
You may use #Pagyanigchallenge as you post selfies, photographs and videos as you duck and cover during the drills.
