The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced that the country will experience stormy weather on Mother’s Day weekend as Typhoon Dodong is expected to directly hit Luzon,” reports Rommel Rio on InterAksyon.com.

PAGASA revealed thatthe typhoon with international name “Noul” has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) around 4am on Thu, May 7, after intensifying and accelerating overnight.

The report noted: “Dodong was last located by Pagasa at 1,040 kilometers east of Surigao City with maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 160 kilometers per hour while moving west northwest at 15 kilometers per hour.”

PAGASA has yet to issue storm warning signals, but it said Typhoon Dodong is expected to affect the eastern section of Visayas within 24 hours. It predicts “heavy to at times intense” rainfall over areas affected by its 150 to 200-kilometer radius.

The report quoted PAGASA weather forecaster Alvin Pura as saying that “the typhoon will likely make landfall over the eastern section of either northern or central Luzon.”
