PAGASA: Monsoon rains may persist until Fri, Aug 19

Expect gloomy weather all week.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reports that at least eight people have died and around 70,266 were displaced last week due to heavy rains and flooding. This was confirmed in a report by The Philippine Star. Classes in Metro Manila and other affected areas were also suspended again today, Mon, Aug 15, due to the bad weather.

And it isn’t over yet.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced that heavy rains from the southwest monsoon may persist mostly over the western sections of Luzon and Visayas until Fri, Aug 19.

In its general forecast for Mon, Aug 15, PAGASA likewise warned that “monsoon rains which may trigger flash floods and landslides will be experienced over Metro Manila, the Ilocos Region, the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), as well as the provinces of Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, and Mindoro.”

The weather bureau said that two tropical cyclones (international names: Chanthu and Conson) outside the country continue to enhance the southwest monsoon.
