PAGASA forecast: Expect a rainy Christmas weekend

The tropical cyclone near Palau (international name: Nock-Ten) has intensified and is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) either Thu night, Dec 22, or Fri morning, Dec 23.

“The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecast showed that the tropical storm, which will be locally named ‘Nina,’ is expected to make landfall over Bicol region on Christmas Eve,” reports Rommel Rio on News5.

The report noted: “PAGASA is also expecting the weather disturbance to traverse Luzon and directly affect the regions of Bicol, Mimaropa, Calabarzon, and Metro Manila over the Christmas weekend.”

On Thu morning, Dec 22, PAGASA “located the weather disturbance at 1,485 kilometers east of Mindanao with maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 80 kph as it moves west-northwest at 23 kph.”

PAGASA said explained that while the storm has yet to significantly affect weather conditions in the Philippine archipelago, “the northeast monsoon or amihan will continue to exert influence over northern Luzon on Thu.”

PAGASA added, “Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains are expected over the regions of Ilocos, Cordillera and Cagayan Valley. Partly cloudy to cloudy skies will prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of the country, with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms mostly over the eastern section.”
