Incoming President Rodrigo Duterte is a fierce advocate of the Separation of Church and State. However, there is at least one person who will be serving as senator during his administration who is using his religion to fuel his career as a lawmaker.
“On Sat, May 28, boxing icon and incoming senator Manny Pacquiao played basketball with Duterte’s close aides at the Almendras Gymnasium in Davao City,” report Dennis Jay Santos and Tara Quismundo in Philippine Daily Inquirer.
On the sidelines of the goodwill game, reporters naturally asked Pacquiao how he felt about people who doubted his ability to be a senator. Pacquiao, who is now known for his devotion to his religion, said, “I can memorize Biblical verses so it won’t be difficult for me to do it.”
We prefer to think that something got lost in translation rather than laugh over the fact that someone thinks being a senator is all about memorizing things.
