Some 1,588 motorists were caught violating the expanded number coding scheme in Metro Manila yesterday — the first day of its reimplementation in the National Capital Region — according to the Metro Manila Development Authority.
That said, the violators were let off with a warning as the MMDA said it was a “dry run” of the scheme, which is still in its trial phase.
ICYMI, the number coding scheme is back after having been suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The scheme’s schedule now covers 7am to 10am as well as 5pm to 8pm. Cars with license plates that end in certain numbers will not be allowed to ply the metro’s major roads depending on the corresponding day of the week.
The coding scheme covers EDSA, Commonwealth, Roxas Boulevard, R1 to R10, C1 to C6, Alabang Zapote Road, McArthur Highway, Marcos Highway, and Mabini Street.
Although violators were not issued tickets on the first day, the MMDA said they will begin imposing a fine of PHP300 (US$5.36) on erring drivers.
