On Thu, Jan 13, over 100 students of Pio del Pilar Elementary School in Makati City were rushed to the hospital after experiencing symptoms of food poisoning.
“According to school administrators, five students immediately went to the clinic after taking their recess past 10am. After a few minutes, more students from grades four to six went to the clinic after experiencing stomach pain and dizziness. Some also vomited,” reports ABS-CBN News.
The students who got sick reportedly had one thing in common: They ate the biscuits that were sold in the school canteen.
Fortunately, the students were able to go home after receiving medical treatment.
The report noted: “Members of the Makati Health Department immediately inspected the school canteen. The Makati police are also investigating the incident. Authorities, however, have yet to confirm what caused the food poisoning among the students.”
Meanwhile, Republic Biscuit Corporation (Rebisco) released a statement on the incident. They said, “We are deeply saddened by this unfortunate event. As of now, we have no concrete details yet. We are doing our best to conduct a thorough investigation to find out all the facts and will cooperate with the proper authorities to ensure that this matter is resolved immediately.”
