Over 100 prisoners from Tacloban City Jail still missing

They used the storm’s wrath and the ensuing chaos to their advantage.

“It’s 103—that’s the exact number of prisoners considered on the loose after they escaped Tacloban City Jail when Typhoon Yolanda hit, flooded the building, and smashed open the main gate,” reports Reuters on ABS-CBNNews.com.

The prisoners had been freed from their cells when the flood started to rise. But while some of them simply proceeded to the warden’s office on the second floor, there were those who had other ideas.

Jail warden Joseph Nunez revealed that there were 676 inmates before the typhoon hit. There were 559 after the storm. Initially, 117 were at large. Some of those who got away actually came back. The number of escaped prisoners is now down to 103. Nunez and his team are hunting down the fugitives. If they are found and they resist arrest, Nunez said he has issued shoot-to-kill orders.
