Outgoing Cebu City mayor Tommy Osmeña twits candidate for plagiarizing his Facebook post

Students are often told that plagiarism is a form of cheating, but some people apparently need to be reminded of this even after they have left school.

Outgoing Cebu City mayor Tommy Osmeña made fun of a politician yesterday after the latter appeared to have plagiarized his Facebook post.

Bong Simbajon, a Zamboanga City broadcaster who lost as a city council candidate in this week’s midterm elections, wrote a post on Facebook which appears to have copied large chunks of Osmeña’s concession message to his Cebuano supporters. Simbajon’s post can no longer be found, but Osmeña screenshotted it and showed it to his Facebook followers, along with his original post.

In his post, Osmeña seemed far from offended. He wrote: “Do your own homework oi, hehe.”

Osmeña’s Facebook post has gone viral and has been shared more than 2,800 times.

Osmeña’s followers, like him, appeared to be amused. Boyet Nacorda called Simbajon’s post as “best in copy paste and slight editing.”

One pretended to send a message from Zamboanga City residents disowning Simbajon.

Angelo Amahan, Zamboanga City resident, apologized to Osmeña.

Osmeña belongs to one of the country’s most famous political clans. His father was a senator while his grandfather was the Philippines’ former president. He lost his re-election bid this week to Edgardo Labella, his former vice mayor who was endorsed by President Rodrigo Duterte.

Coconuts Manila has reached out to Simbajon but he has yet to reply as of writing.
