Operators of ‘colorum’ buses to get PHP1 million fine

It should be enough to put them out of business, right?

“The Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) announced that operators of ‘colorum’ buses will be fined PHP1 million starting on June 19,” reports ABS-CBNnews.com.

The DOTC explained that “this is part of the efforts of the agency, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to rid the streets of unauthorized public utility vehicles (PUVs).”

These are the fines for all first-time colorum offenders:

Buses – PHP1 million
Trucks – PHP200,000
Jeepneys – PHP50,000
Vans – PHP200,000
Sedans – PHP120,000
Motorcycles/Tricycles – PHP6,000

All colorum vehicles will also be impounded for at least three months.
