5 things you’ll need for your DIY Halloween costume

Forget candy. As soon as people see you decked in your unique Halloween goodness, they’ll readily give you three bags full of treats!

It’s easy to buy Halloween costumes. But that sounds like a trick: It costs money for something that somebody else might also have. Assembling what you have to make costume doesn’t always guarantee you’ll hit the spot, and making costumes require solid skill. So, your best course of action? Home-made prosthetics!

Make up artist Meg Serranilla who dabbles in prosthetics and loves Halloween shared with Coconuts Manila a unique Halloween recipe comprised only of five ingredients to achieve that uniquely gruesome Halloween look — check photo above.

The beauty of this look of terror lies in two things: the level of gruesomeness will really depend on you. You can make it look like a terrible case of boils, or you can go for a slick and slim knife cut. And second, it’s so versatile! Instead of a knife cut, you can go for a bad case of burns, or warts, and so it goes.

The five things you’ll need: 1) Corn Syrup 2) Food Coloring (red, blue, green) 3) Cornstarch 4) Elmer’s Glue 5) Toilet Paper

Now, what do you do with them? First, you make fake blood: In a saucepan, heat some cornsyrup and cornstarch and let thicken. Put red food coloring and a tiny drop of green and blue to darken to the shade of blood you want.

Second, you make the flesh:

1. Get the amount of tissue you’ll need to make your prosthetic and mix it with elmer’s glue.
2. Shape it the way you want it (boils, warts, cuts, bullet holes, etc.)
3. Stick it on your face/body.
4. Color with foundation and eyeshadow.
5. Top with fake blood as needed.

Looking like evil is simple, isn’t it? If you don’t trust yourself, you can book Meg and the make-up artist will gladly make you look like your boss, or whoever symbolises evil in your life that you’d love to mock come halloween. Happy Halloween!
