On Fri morning, Nov 4, Anti-narcotics operatives seized 20 kilos of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu wrapped in carbon paper in a buy-bust operation along Ongpin Street in Manila.
Ongpin Street is located in Manila’s Binondo district, which is dubbed as Chinatown.
Police said that the shabu seized during the bust has a street value of PHP100 million or around US$2,064,815.
“Anti-illegal drug operatives of Manila Police District Station 11 conducted a buy-bust operation wherein poseur-buyers bought 100 grams of shabu from two male suspects,” reports ABS-CBN News Online.
The report noted: “Authorities made the arrest after discovering that the suspects had a large shabu cache wrapped in foil and carbon paper in their car.”
Aside from the shabu, a .45-caliber handgun, PHP300,000 (around US$6,202) in marked money, and identification cards of Chinese nationals were also recovered from the Filipino suspects.
The suspects are set to face charges of violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
