Ombudsman orders dismissal of CHR Commissioner Coco Quisumbing

Are we putting the wrong people in office?

“The Ombudsman has ordered the dismissal of Commissioner Cecilia Rachel ‘Coco’ Quisumbing of the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) on charges of bribery and corruption,” reports ABS-CBNnews.com.

CHR Chairperson Etta Rosales said the Commission will respect the decision of the Ombudsman.

Quisumbing, who is also a former journalist, was suspended in February. She has claimed that all the charges against her are false.

The report said that “in a 23-page resolution, the Ombudsman also recommended the filing of a charge for direct bribery against Quisumbing before the Sandiganbayan.”

The report explained that the charges against Quisumbing “stemmed from a complaint filed by a former member of her staff, Regina Eugenio, who alleged that Quisumbing had promoted her but kept for herself the additional salary intended for Eugenio’s new salary grade.”

Moreover, as the report indicated, “some other complainants also accused Quisumbing of violating their dignity by issuing demeaning instructions and oppressive disciplinary actions and humiliating them in public.”
