Passengers of the Metro Rail Transit (MRT 3) were told to alight after the chronically dysfunctional rail system suffered yet another technical glitch Tuesday morning.Bing Zaide, spokesperson of MRT maintenance contractor Global APT, said a train at the southbound lane suffered a problem in its safety device at 7:42am.

Passengers were told to alight at the Ortigas Station while the MRT pulled out the affected train.

A similar incident occurred at the Magallanes Station, but the management was able to reset the safety equipment.

Zaide said MRT’s safety devices, called ”computer boxes”, are already old and need to be replaced.

Some 15 trains are currently operational for today, Zaide said.

Normally, there should be 20 trains running during peak hours and 15 during non-peak hours. —report from Dennis Datu, dzMM
