OFWs protest collection of terminal fees, refund process inconvenient

Don’t you just hate it when you’re promised a refund but it’s practically impossible for you to get it?

“John Leonard Monterona, Migrante Middle East coordinator, said the collection of the PHP550 terminal fee from Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) violates the Migrant Workers Act and must be stopped,” reports Mayen Jaymalin in The Philippine Star.

Monterona said, “The OFW is overburdened under the Aquino government.”

He added that “although government promised to refund the amount, around 200 Filipino workers would form a beeline toward a single teller at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), thus creating the impression that the refund was a bum steer.”

The reality is, as Monterona indicated, “many OFWs no longer bother to get a refund after seeing the long queues.”

Knowing this, Monterona asked, “By the way, where did the un-refunded fee go?”

Now, that’s one loaded question that has no answer yet.
