UP Oblation Run: Naked men to protest Marcos burial

Following the tradition of running naked to make a point, members of the Alpha Phi Omega (APO) Fraternity will hold the iconic Oblation Run at the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman campus on Fri, Nov 25, to protest the burial of late dictator Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani (LNMB).

Also called “Ritual Dance of the Brave,” the annual run is  seen as an opportunity for the group to fight for a worthy cause. The timely schedule of this year’s Oblation Run coincides with the “Black Friday” protests, also denouncing the hushed and hurried burial of Marcos at the LNMB.

“In the span of nine days, the Duterte administration has put to waste the epic heroism of many thousands who suffered and died under Marcos the dictator by allowing his burial at the country’s field of heroes,” APO said in a statement published by ABS-CBN News.

“We call on our government to truly serve the people, to protect the freedoms for which many have fought and died, and pay homage to these heroes by never forgetting the dark chapters of our history while moving boldly towards a more just future,” the statement added.

The Oblation Run was tradtionally held in December, but the schedule was adjusted in response to UP’s academic calendar shift.

The run will start at 12nn. An indignation rally against Marcos’ burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani will follow at 1pm. Activists from U.P. will join the anti-Marcos protest in Rizal Park at 4pm.
