Former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. advised his sister, Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos, against attending an upcoming hearing in the House of Representatives.
House Committee on Good Government chairman Johnny Pimentel earlier warned Governor Marcos of of possible detention for skipping hearings on the alleged misuse of tobacco excise funds.
According to Marcos, the hearings on the said issue have become a personal attack against his sister. The former senator fears lawmakers only want to detain Imee when she attends the hearing.
“Nag-start ‘yan sa political pero personal na ngayon. I believe that… kung pulitika lang, hindi ganito ang response, parang overreaction,” he said in a press conference in Ormoc City, Leyte.
(It started as political but now it’s personal. I believe that… if this is all just about politics, the response wouldn’t be like this. It’s like an overreaction.)
However, Marcos said it is still up to his sister if she want would attend the hearing.
“Wala namang masama na maipaliwanag ang side mo pero kung pupunta ka doon para ikulong ka lang e sabi hindi naman useful ‘yun, hindi nakakatulong sa question na pinag-aaralan,” he added.
(There’s nothing wrong in explaining your side but to go there to be imprisoned when they said it’s not useful, it won’t help the question being studied.)
Marcos is in the quake-hit city to check the situation and see what help he can provide to the affected families. He went to Ormoc with his cousin, former Leyte Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez.
Asked about the updates on the electoral protest against Vice President Leni Robredo, he said the preliminary conference will begin on Tuesday.
“That’s the first part of the protest… doon namin dahan-dahan ipapaliwanag kung ano ba talaga ang ipro-prove namin doon sa mga ebedensiyang natanggap namin,” he said.
(That’s the first part of the protest, there we’ll slowly explain what it really is and we’ll prove the pieces of evidence we received.)
The former senator also addressed the rumors saying he has not been visible publicly lately because he has been undergoing rehabilitation for a supposed cocaine addiction.
Marcos laughed the rumors off and explained that he was busy going around the country to thank those who supported him last elections.
