No WiFi or 3G? You could soon be getting MMDA tweets through SMS

With 703k followers and 246,189 posts as of this writing, you could say the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority has been a hit on Twitter. And it’s ready to go to the next level. Former MMDA official Yves Gonzalez says he’s enrolled the MMDA’s official account to the microblogging service’s new feature, called “Twitter Alerts”, which pushes messages as an SMS. This can be helpful at times when you have no Internet connection because of an emergency or, sad face, because of your telcom’s incompetence. Gonzalez posted an acknowledgement from the Twitter team, what appeared to be a positive response to the request.
