Ready to say goodbye to the President’s signature plaid polo?
Fashion designers from Davao City have prepared several barong designs for the Davao mayor. Though it hasn’t been confirmed what the barongs are for, it is very likely that they will be used for Duterte’s Presidential inauguration on June 30.
“According Boni Adaza and Chard Pulatche, six pairs of barong and pants were already picked up by Duterte’s team last week,” ABS-CBN news reports.
For the rather unconventional president, the designers deliberately kept the barongs simple. The material they used were jusi for the barong and curduroy for the pants.
Meanwhile, designer Aris Escarrilla prepared a barong dress made from cocoon fabric with custom-made embroidery for Honeylet Avanceña, Duterte’s partner.
Duterte once said that barong are for funerals. Earlier this month, however, he agreed to wear the Barong Tagalog whenever the occassion calls for it.
