We really hope that the ladies who are invited to attend President Rodrigo Duterte’s State of the Nation Adress (SONA) haven’t splurged on a long gown just yet. We’d hate to see their desogner pieces go to waste.
In an attempt to “step away from the norm,” there has been a change in the dress code of the June 25 event at the Batasang Pambansa.
Incoming Finance Department spokesperson Paola Alvarez on Monday said that the guests, especially the ladies, will be asked to tone down their choices.
“We will downplay the event. It will not be a fashion show. We want to center on the what the President’s message is to our people especially it’s his first State of the Nation Address. So it will be a different take because our guests will be requested not to wear their gowns as what we have previously been seeing in the past SONAs,” she said during a press briefing at the Malacañan Palace as reported by GMA News.
Guests will be asked to wear business attire. Ladies have the option to wear a Filipiniana, but only knee-length.
“During the previous SONAs, most people see that this is an occasion where people tend to flaunt their gowns, their dresses. We want to step away from this norm that has become and we want to bring back the real essence of the State of the Nation,” Alvarez explained.
Ladies, you have less than a week to find that perfect business attire. Remember, Brillante Mendoza will be filming. You still have to put on your A-game… even if you’re not in a gown.
