If there’s a will, then there’s a way out.
Street children were caught on cam as they skillfully fled from a rescue van in Quiapo, Manila. The kids were gathered by a social worker, and were supposed to be brought to the main office of the Manila Social Welfare and Development (MSWD).
The van has already been modified with additional railings to prevent escape, yet the kids were still able to find a way out.
“We were surprised that their bodies were able to fit in the railings of the van,” said Manila Bulletin photographer Ali Vicoy, who caught the kids in action.
Even police authorities who approached the van didn’t scare the kids as they performed their great escape. One kid even tried to open the van’s padlock after he escaped to “help out” the other kids inside.
The stressed out social worker eventually stepped out of the van to give the kids a stern warning.
According to MSWD in a report by ABS-CBN, “The boys were reached out at P. Noval st. Sampaloc Manila. A total of 120 individuals were rescued that day.”
MSWD also promised to install additional railings in their vans to prevent similar situations in the future.
Social workers were again able to find the escapees on the same day. They weren’t able to escape the second time around.
