There is enough rice in the country, the National Food Authority said Wednesday, adding the “the public should not panic or even worry over the supply and rising price of rice.“
NFA administrator Orlan Calayag said the country has 2.4 metric tons of rice in stock “that is more than sufficient enough to last the lean months of this year.”
He said there is enough rice to last 71 days based on the country’s domestic requirement of 680,000 sacks of rice a day.
The NFA will be sending out field staff to monitor rice movements and prices and check speculations that could drive prices up.
