After the recent flooding brought about by typhoon Maring, prices of basic commodities have yet to return to normal in the metropolis. Reports that rice sellers have been taking advantage of consumers by jacking up prices of what is supposed to be affordably-priced rice has prompted the National Food Authority (NFA) to conduct random market checks.
The NFA is also reacting to reports that NFA rice is being sold as commercial rice, a practice called rice switching.
In a radio report, spokesman Rex Estoperez warned that vendors caught doing this will lose their license to sell NFA rice. Estoperez said in the dzbb interview that NFA teams will be checking NFA rice stocks and look for signs that they are being passed off as commercial rice.
